A TEXAS CHRISTMAS

   How do Texans enjoy Christmas?

Basically, Just like the rest of the country with just a few things enhanced or changed up a bit. Of course, I must start out with most wonderful biker community. For months ahead of time, They have fundraisers with auctions. Everyone, Including businesses and families come out of the woodwork to donate items of all kinds to the auctions. There are raffles and food sales and much more. The money rasied goes straight to children’s homes, private families down on their luck, shelters and more. Texas has hundreds of clubs involved in this as most of our clubs are charity clubs. They put their all into these projects and Christmas is just one time of the
year they do a project like this. I am not up to the numbers right now but because of my past research, I estimate the amounts they raise is well over a million dollars, Maybe more than two million, They don’t do a lot of bragging on this so it is hard to tell. So lets give a big shout out to all our hard working bikers and their big hearts. Merry Christmas all of you and your families!

Now on to the other Texas traditions. Unexpected decorated trees along the roadside, Not to mention also, the cactus and tumbleweeds. We even decorate our horses, cows, dogs, etc.We have extreme yard decor with humungus inflatables, extreme lighting and life-sized nativity scenes and some with real animals. Let’s not forget our wreaths made from barbed wire.

I am not sure if they still do this but at one time our capital was decorated like no one could believe. The capital building was made into a gingernread house, Large cans of bluebonnets, of course a “Come and Get It” lit up flag and millions of lights with 24 karat gold and silver finishes.

Then there is the illuminated boat parade at the Harbor Lights Festival in Corpus Christi.

How about this for something unique… “Dickens on the Strand” in the port city of Galveston! Every year in December the strand turns into a Dickensonian Event, with gas lights lit, horse drawn carriages, and characters straight out of “A Christmas Carol.” People from all over come dressed in victorian garb. How awesome this experience would be!

The Riverwalk in San Antonio lights up around Thanksgiving and is an experience everyone should enjoy at least once although thousands have it as a yearly Christmas tradition. The lights high up in the massive trees along with all the businesses along the river are decorated most beautifully.

There are multiple drive-thru lighting experiences all over Texas. No matter where you are there will be a Christmas drive-thru place nearby.
Here are just a few….

Illuminight, San Antonio, Tx.

Santa’s Ranch, New Braunfels, Tx.
